HOF Class of 2013

Don Dobina – 2013
Don Dobina played, coached, watched or equipped sports 24-7 his entire life.  He played football, basketball and baseball for Perry and was one of the best players in each sport.  He basketball he could run the floor, drive to the basket, play defense and rebound consistently. During the football season, Don was an excellent receiver from the Tight End position, and an aggressive, ball-hawking linebacker.  Football gave Don the chance to play for the Louisville Cardinals under the direction of the legendary coach Lee Corso. Because he was a humble man, most people didn’t know that Don was a nationally known and respected Softball coach. He coached hundreds of Division I athletes helping them earn scholarships.  Don also financed our Hall of Fame golf outing. I’m sure Don is playing, and competing somewhere right now.

Ron Kaylor – 2013
In the early years of Perry High School Ron Kaylor was one of its most versatile and talented athletes.  He was Perry’s first qualifier to the State Track meet and was one of the first pole-vaulters in the county.  He played Football, basketball and track earning 7 varsity letters. Ron went to Ohio State on a full ride scholarship and played football for Woody Hayes.  He coached the freshman at OSU as a grad assistant. Ron also coached the Marine football team on the base where he was stationed. He has always taught a variety of sports and spent the 70s and 80s as a ski instructor.

Bob Kilpatrick – 2013
Coach Kil would coach anybody, anywhere, anytime.  He loved all the parts of coaching, scouting, meetings, games, practices and working with athletes no matter what their skill or level.  He coached the tennis team to 300+ victories and three Federal League titles. Bob started and developed the Perry tennis summer camp that introduced  tennis to Perry students for the first time. The program was taught by Kil’s varsity players, and the kids created lifetime friendships. His teams always had girls on them so he could show the need and interest for the girls to have their own team.  He was fortunate to coach for Perry legends Tom Winkhart, Joe Demaree, Keith Wakefield, and Larry Wilson. He even helped coach girls with Carol Meyer. He loved teaching individual skills to student athletes of all ages. Kil was truly a coach for all seasons.

Brian Malinowski – 2013
Brian Malinowski was one of the smartest and most coachable players during his career.  He made plays in important games, because he studied the game and reacted based on his knowledge.  He hit the game winner his Junior that helped the team make it to the regionals and eventually to the final four.  Brian rebounded the ball like much taller players, he knew where the ball would go on a miss and he was there to track it down.  He knew when the team needed him to take over a game on offense. He could fantastic jump shot he could drive to score or create shots for his teammates. When Perry needed a play under pressure they could count on “Mal” to come through for them.  Brian was a great leader and truly “Born to Run”. Brian went on to Dennison and earned 4 varsity letters.

Pat Murray – 2013
Pat has been the Ultimate Volunteer for Perry Athletics, Academics and the Community:  She and her husband Ken have run the Perry Adult Booster Club since the late seventies.  All of Perry Township has benefitted from the sacrifice and hard work Pat delivers every year.  She sells raffle tickets, cookie dough, advertisements, and any other paraphernalia that will help her raise money.  Her efforts help support athletics at every level in our schools, PTOs at every Perry elementary school, and nearly every township organization.  If there is an event happening in our schools Pat has probably helped organize it, shown up to decorate, or volunteered to greet people as they arrive.  Pat lives the true meaning of a dedicated volunteer.

Michelle Reigler-2013
Between 1988 and 1991 Michelle earned 12 varsity letters in Track, Cross Country and Swimming.  She also was All-Federal League and All-Stark County in each of those sports. She holds the Perry record for the 200M freestyle, and the 500M freestyle the most grueling of the swimming events.  Most swimmers shy away from the distance swimming events. Michelle went on to Eastern Michigan University. She was the two-time MAC Champion in Cross Country and Made 5 All-MAC Academic first teams in Track and Cross Country.  Michelle proved that hard work in the classroom and athletic field develops Champions.

Leslie Roland – 2013
Leslie Roland performed every day at a level most players only dream they can achieve once.  Leslie had beautiful ground strokes and covered the court with the quickness of a cat. She had the attitude that she could get to every opponents shot and make them keep playing until they hit it out.  Leslie could paint the lines or rip a crosscourt backhand at the precise moment to devastate her opponent. She never settled for being one of the Federal League’s best or even Stark County’s top player, she pushed herself and qualified to state level four years.  Perry has never had a tennis player have more success and receive more honors, she put Perry on the Ohio State map. Leslie also enjoyed basketball and was a fine guard. After leaving Perry she was one of the best players in Division III at Mary Washington College.

Jason Wise-2013
In the eighth grade Jason used to watch the wrestlers practicing at Edison, and thought how hard it would be to wrestle.  He was always there so the coaches said come on practice with us.  Jason was a big guy and he had to work hard to get in shape he didn’t get to wrestle in a lot of matches when he was young.  Suddenly everything changed his Junior year in high school, he was still big but now he was strong and determined. Because he worked extremely hard and bought into the Perry way, Jason was a runner-up at the state meet his junior and seniors years. When they say “you’ve come along way baby” they are talking about Perry Hall of Famer Jason Wise.
